Hello, I’m Sally Race.
I’m a Clinical Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist, with a Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy and an Honours Degree in Occupational Therapy.

I’ve always been fascinated by how the mind works and, more importantly, how it can change. Helping people move forward, feel better, and get back in control of their lives isn’t just my job, it’s something I genuinely care about. This year marks 21 years in private practice, which feels both slightly surreal and a bit of a “where did that go?” moment. Safe to say, I still love what I do.

Before working privately, I spent many years in the NHS as a Senior Occupational Therapist. During that time, I led stress management groups within a cardiac rehabilitation team and worked one to one with people experiencing anxiety, panic attacks, and persistent overthinking. Alongside this, I’ve taught at University of Derby and lectured at Derby College, as well as delivering workshops for both NHS and private practitioners.

Since 2005, I’ve supported clients with a wide range of challenges, from anxiety and panic through to weight loss, IBS and confidence issues. My approach is always tailored to the individual. There’s no “one size fits all” here. I draw from a blend of approaches including cognitive behavioural therapy, neuro linguistic programming, the Model of Human Occupation, and hypnotherapy, adapting the work to suit you and your goals.

I’m a registered member of the National Council for Hypnotherapy, which means I meet strict standards for training, professionalism and ongoing development.

If I’m honest, I probably do fall into the “bit of a geek” category. I like to stay up to date with the latest research around anxiety, stress, weight management and gut health, and I’m always learning. You’ll often find me sharing useful insights on social media or writing articles for mine or the Acorn blog when something particularly catches my interest.

Choosing the right therapist matters. You need to feel comfortable, understood and confident in the process. That’s exactly why I offer a free initial consultation. It’s a relaxed 20 minute chat where we can explore what’s going on for you, what you’d like to change, and how hypnotherapy might help. You can ask questions, get a feel for how I work, and decide if it’s the right fit.

And if I don’t think I’m the best person to help, I’ll be honest about that and point you in the right direction. After all, the goal is getting you the right support for you.
