Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage in Heanor

with George Timby, Sports Massage Therapist at Acorn Natural Health Centre

Deep Tissue Massage focuses on areas of the body where muscle tension has built up over time and is starting to affect how you move or feel day to day.

This can come from posture, physical work, training, repetitive strain, or long periods of stress that keep the body in a tightened state.

The aim is to work into deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue to reduce tightness and improve ease of movement.

What happens during a Deep Tissue Massage?

This treatment uses a combination of hands-on techniques that work at different depths depending on what your body needs on the day.

It may include:

• deeper muscle work to release areas of tightness
• kneading to soften restricted tissue
• sustained pressure into specific points of tension
• cupping therapy to help lift and release tight fascia

The approach is adjusted throughout the session so pressure always stays within a workable level for you.

What it is used for

Deep Tissue Massage is commonly used when there is:

• ongoing muscle tightness
• neck, shoulder or back discomfort
• stiffness after physical activity or training
• postural strain from work or daily habits
• areas of tension that keep returning
• general restriction in movement

The focus is not on light relaxation alone, but on working into the deeper areas where tension tends to hold.

What to expect during treatment

You will usually be asked a few questions at the start about where you are feeling discomfort or restriction.

The treatment is then focused around those areas, using deeper pressure where needed and lighter work where the tissue is more sensitive.

Some areas may feel more intense during treatment, especially if there is a lot of built-up tension, but this is always adjusted based on your comfort and feedback.

Afterwards, it is common to feel looser through the muscles, with reduced tightness and a greater sense of ease in movement.

After your session

It is normal to feel a little different in the body after deep tissue work, especially if areas have been tight for a long time.

Many people notice:

• less stiffness
• improved range of movement
• reduced feeling of tension in key areas
• a lighter, more relaxed body feeling

If your body feels tight, restricted, or uncomfortable to move in certain areas, Deep Tissue Massage offers focused hands-on work to help reduce muscular tension and improve physical ease.

George Timby

Sport Massage Therapist

Hello, I’m George Timby, a fully qualified Sports Massage Therapist with a Bachelor of Science in Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation.

My journey into sports therapy began after a serious football injury that led me to discover a passion for rehabilitation, strengthening, and conditioning. After undergoing surgery and sports therapy for my knee, I experienced first-hand the benefits of effective treatment and recovery, allowing me to return to the sport I love. This inspired me to dedicate my career to helping others overcome their injuries and achieve their full physical potential.

Growing up in Heanor, I played football for Heanor Town and Derby County Community Trust during my college years. Alongside football, I found a love for running and trained for my first marathon in my second year at Derby College. Unfortunately, the combination of these activities took a toll on my body, resulting in a knee injury that required surgery. However, the rehabilitation process not only restored my fitness but sparked a passion for helping others recover and regain their strength.

As a sports massage therapist, my goal is to tailor treatment to each client’s specific needs—whether you're recovering from an injury, aiming to improve performance, or simply seeking relief from everyday aches and pains. I use therapeutic techniques designed to promote recovery, reduce pain, and improve mobility.

Sports massage therapy isn't just for injury recovery—it’s also for injury prevention, a concept known as Prehab. My goal is to help you prepare your body for whatever life throws at it, whether that’s a demanding workout, a long shift at work, or an active lifestyle. Through targeted massage therapy, I help keep your body in optimal condition, ready for action.

If you’re looking to recover from an injury or enhance your physical performance, I’d be honoured to help you reach your goals. Together, we’ll work towards getting you back to full fitness so you can do what you love—without pain holding you back!
